Frequently Asked Questions

What digital art tools do you use?

My digital tools are a 2024 Apple iPad Pro 13", Apple Pencil Pro, and Clip Studio Paint EX.

What brushes do you use?

I use a LOT. Here are my go-to’s:

  • The default airbush for establishing/laying out my sketch.
  • The Perfect Pencil (with tilt) brush from the Clip Studio asset store for refined sketches.
  • For inking, I’ll use either the Pencil above or my own custom brush.
  • For laying flat colors, I use the enclose + fill tool.
  • For shading, the tools I use vary a LOT. However, I do often use the default gouache brushes as well as the Perfect Pencil, or my custom Gritty Paint Pencil brush.

What type of tablet should I get as a beginner?

My honest opinion? A basic iPad (not Pro or Air) and Apple Pencil or a Samsung S6 Lite and S-Pen are great starting places. However, if you already have a computer and don’t have the budget for an iPad, a great budget option is a non-screen drawing tablet like a Wacom Intuos.

Do you accept commissions? / Can you draw something for me?

I do take limited commissions. You can find all information here.

Are you available to work on projects?

Nope! I have many projects of my own as well as college and my YouTube and podcast to work on, plus I have two school-age kids, so my schedule’s pretty full.

About Me

Genderfluid Heart Icon

Heya! I’m Riven. I’m a genderfluid illustrator and writer from the St. Louis area. I’m a spouse, parent, and pet-parent. I prefer to write horror and dark fantasy, and most of my stories at least contain those elements.

I’ve attended Full Sail University for Computer Animation, Creative Writing, and Digital Marketing. I’ve had a short story published in the Adelaide Literary Journal (under my former pen name, Riven Wren) titled “The Laundromat”. It’s available on their website, if you’d like to check it out!

Professionally, I’ve created artwork for best-selling authors Kevin Hearne and Delilah S. Dawson, but the vast majority of my work has been done on a personal basis; either for myself, for friends, or personal(/non-commercial) commission work for individuals.
